6 Ways to Prepare Yourself for a Truck Driving Job Search:

Searching for a new truck driving job can be an intimidating task!  We have compiled 6 simple steps to help prepare you for getting behind your own truck, with an excellent truck driving company.

1. Educate yourself on the trucking industry:

Do the research. Know what is out there and what the trucking industry entails.

Know the demand and supply of truck drivers in the U.S.

Being familiar may help you to understand if it is right for you and can help with your motivation and excitement.

2. Prepare yourself:

Keep your driving and criminal records clean, this may help you to qualify for quality jobs.

Be confident.

Represent the type of job you would like to work for.

 3. Create a list of what is important to you, such as:

Driving in general, how much do you like it?

What type of pay are you looking for?

Do you want a job with benefits?

How many miles would you like to drive each week?

What are some of the benefits to choosing a particular company?

How much home time do you need?

4. When filling out an application, fill it out to the best of your ability.

Use grammatically correct language, and check for spelling errors.

List appropriate email accounts; try to refrain from using names such as “sexy boy” or “devils child”.

Make sure to follow up with phone calls and/or emails to show your interest.

Be professional and realize that this is a career and can make for a great opportunity.

 5. Select a few companies that meet your criteria.

Once you’ve done the research and prioritized what’s important to you, then select a few companies that meet your needs. For example if benefits are listed as top priority to you, with Swift Transportation they offer medical, vision and life insurance as well as a dental plan.

 6. Once you have been scheduled for training or orientation, make sure to show.

When applying for a trucking position, there are many preparations made by the company for your attendance. By not showing to your scheduled time, you are showing the company a disinterest. Once you have the opportunity to attend a training or orientation, enjoy it and give your best efforts.

Finally with these 6 steps, you may be on your way to a new career and onto a new and exciting path. Congratulations!
